We have been reading The Enchanted Forest by Enid Blyton every evening. The girls are enthralled and attempting a night without a chapter can mean tears and arguments from them both.
About a month ago we had one of those "aha" moments, when we read about Silky dressing up as a daffodil - perfect for the Book Week parade (and redeeming oursleves, as last year I caved in and Grace went dressed as Elsa from Frozen, not vey book!).
Needless to say, time passed and it wasn't until the day before the parade that I applied myself to the question of how to make a daffodil costume. Some things were easy, a trip to Savers for green jeans and a green top - all wearable again. Money spent sensibly. Then it got a bit muddled as I rushed from one store to another, watching the clock and finally arriving home with a large yellow plastic tablecloth, green fairy wings, a dress-up Hawaiian skirt and a headband with an oddly attached crown. Dear husband and I sat up long past his bedtime (I am used to late nights) and bent wire, melted plastic (in an attempt to join it with the hot glue gun), stitched and yawned.
I was pleased with the result, and Grace was VERY pleased, but husband was not at his best the next day. And it did dawn on us that next year there will be two children in the Book Parade. That of course, means that I should start now. Or, if I have my way, they will be wearing a single colour each (thus recycling the green jeans and top) and dressed as the crayons from Oliver Jeffer's The Day the Crayons Came Home.
